Exitotoxins: MSG, aspartame, hydrolyzed vegetable protein

Update: See this link for a complete list of foods with hidden MSG
http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.htm

Remember: By FDA definition, all MSG is "naturally occurring." "Natural" doesn't mean "safe."

http://www.westonaprice.org/bookreviews/excitotoxins.html

Only pure MSG must be labeled. If a spice or flavoring mixture contains less than 100% MSG, it need not be indicated on the label. Various types of hydrolyzed protein are actually the precursors for MSG and are possibly more toxic.

Foods containing hidden MSG [could] include:
sodium caseinate
calcium caseinate
yeast extract
textured protein
autolyzed yeast
hydrolyzed flour
hydrolyzed protein
malt extract
malt flavoring
bouillon
broth
stock
"flavoring"
"natural flavoring"
"seasoning"
"spices"
carrageenan
enzymes
soy protein concentrate
soy protein isolate
whey protein concentrate
free glutamic acid
L-glutamic acid
glutamate
Citric acid (see below)

"Making it even more difficult for the MSG-sensitive individual, in February of this year [sic], the FDA approved Sanova, an antimicrobial rinse, for use on red meats. The product, composed of "sodium chloride" and "citric acid," is claimed by its manufacturer, the Alcide Corporation, to kill 99 percent of pathogens on carcasses. Sanova is also approved for use on poultry carcasses, fruits and vegetables. Efforts are underway by the manufacturer to approve the rinse for use on processed foods. Foods treated with Sanova are not required to disclose the fact that "sodium chloride" and "citric acid" were used on them."
