Mercola Whey Protein drink mix
If you purchase 3 jars at the value price, is $1.94 per serving
17 grams of protein
1.6 g fat
3.1-1.4=1.7g carb
This is only 10-20 CENTS more per serving than Atkins or Myoplex comparable products, which I priced on vitacost.com
My conclusion is that the price is very good for a much higher quality product, which means a *simple* formula not containing suspect ingredients, including no soy. Furthermore, the whey protein itself is sourced from grass-fed, better than organic sources. It has less fat than Atkins. It is sweetened with xylitol and stevia, both of which I'm okay with.
Idea: Mix this protein powder with 1/2 cup water OR milk and add raw egg yolk, maybe 1 tablespoon of peanut butter if you blend in blender. Add to any size shake that you want.
Bottom Line: Use any nutritional supplement as an adjunct to a good diet. If you are trying to save money, then consume more whole foods. Processed foods of all kinds cost far more than unprocessed foods.
Protein shakes and bars, packaged whole foods, should be used as a CONVENIENCE food when something better is not available or time does not allow. This Optimal Whey Protein is a way of getting a concentrated amount of protein when you are on-the-go.
Method: in a jar with a lid, add 2 ice cubes and 1/2 cup water. Put 1 scoop powder on top and shake til smooth. Let sit 1 minute and it will thicken a little (probably due to the flaxseed)
Chocolate, Strawberry or Vanilla Flavors
Atkins powder
I didn't price this one. It is cheaper than the Atkins liquid shakes. But, it has all the same suspect ingredients as those do. Nearly irrelvant to me.
Atkins shake
6.67 per 4 cans
$1.67 per serving
15 grams of protein
9g fat
4-2=2g carb
EAS Mypoplex shakes
$10.99 per 4 cans
$2.74 per serving
42grams of protein
7g fat
20-6= 14g carb
EAS Myoplex Lite and Myoplex Carb sense both contain sucralose and soy products as well as many other suspect ingredients.
EAS Carb Sense packets of powder (you mix) are
$35.99 for 20 servings
$1.80 per serving
